Tours and Programs of the 2011 Year of Russian-Spanish Cultural Cooperation

In 2011, RUS Art acted as coordinator of the appearances in Russia of Spanish ensembles and artists within the framework of the Year of Russian-Spanish Cultural Cooperation.

Theatrical, dance and musical ensembles from Spain, including upward of 130 participants, took part in more than 15 events in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ulan-Ude, Cheboksary and Vladikavkaz.

Among the events were a performance by one of Spain’s best theater schools, Teatro del Estudio Corazza, of “Evocando Yerma” at the Meyerhold Center in Moscow, appearances by the National Ballet of Spain in a program of one-act ballets, “Dualia,” “Danza y Tronio” and “La Leyenda,” at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, the Chuvash State Theater of Opera and Ballet in Cheboksary and the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and a performance of the opera “Carmen” with participation of Spanish conductor Borja Quintas and the orchestra of the Buryat State Theater of Opera and Ballet in Ulan-Ude.

A concert with participation of the Basque EASO Choir took place at the festival “Guests of Larisa Gergieva” on the stage of the State Theater of Opera and Ballet of North Ossetia-Alania in Vladikavkaz.

The 2011 Year of Russian-Spanish Cultural Cooperation and Exchange offered a unique opportunity for Russian audiences to become acquainted with contemporary Spanish performance art and to enrich its knowledge of the culture and history of Spain.
