If you look very carefully at the writing of the word AZERBAIJAN you will find in it all the letters from which to draw up a short but such an attractive for millions of fans word JAZZ. And if you lend attentive ear to the Azerbaijani music you will hear everything that makes related it with jazz: bright melodies, tart harmony, fiery rhythms and, of course, a free improvisational spirit, which is the soul and essence of mugham art.
Maybe, that’s why the jazz became a national phenomenon in Azerbaijan, and in the 60 - 70s years the surprising alloy of American music traditions with ancient culture of mugham arose in the compositions of Vagif Mustafazadeh virtuoso jazz pianist and composer, and subsequently got its definition in the history of world jazz as a “mugham and jazz”.
The project presents three generations of Azerbaijani jazz musicians: the older generation in the face of Vagif Sadikhov, the average one represented by Salman Gambarov and two young performers Emil Afrasiyab and Elchin Shirinov. Each of them has its own distinctive style and a unique musical manner. But all of them together constitute the phenomenon, which is called the Azeri jazz.

April 12, 2012 the Evening of Azerbaijani jazz JAZZ.AZ held at the Theatre Hall of the Moscow International House of Music, as a part of cultural exchange activities between Russia and Azerbaijan in 2012.
In the beginning of the Evening Mrs Akhundova Nigar Led kyzy Advisor on humanitarian Affairs of the Embassy of Azerbaijan Republic in the Russian Federation made a welcome speech and presented the participants of the concert . She told about the history of the development of the jazz in Azerbaijan. Mrs Akhundova noted that the concert collected the best from what is today in Azerbaijani jazz - three generations of Azerbaijani jazz were at one stage.
April 12 in the Evening the audience listened to the older generation in the face of Vagif Sadikhov, the middle one, represented by Salman Gambarov and two young performers - Emil Afrasiyab and Elchin Shirinov in the Theater hall of the Moscow international House of Music. Each of them has its own distinctive style and a unique musical manner.
The concert was also attended by Ruslan Huseynov contrabass, Vagif Aliyev, Elvin Bashirov, Iskender Aleskerov drum, Tofig Jabarov percussion, Mirjavad Jafarov national instruments tar and oud, as well as Lala Safarali jazz vocalist, that evening she made her debut on the professional stage.
The concert was supported by the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and by the Embassy of Azerbaijan Republic in the Russian Republic.
